The Hanged Man
The Upside-Down Sea · a card from the Eutheum deck
- Upright
- pause, surrender, new perspective
- Reversed
- stalling, resistance
Upright meaning
Suspension, a pause, and a view from another angle. The Hanged Man says that sometimes you have to stop, let go of control and see the world upside down in order to understand. Like the Upside-Down Sea, where you fall upwards, the card invites you to surrender to a situation that is teaching you something important.
Reversed meaning
Being stuck, refusing to change perspective, or a sacrifice that achieves nothing. You are waiting, but don't know for what. Time to decide: truly let go, or move on.
Love and relationships
A relationship on hold, time to think things over, a sacrifice for the other person. Reversed: staying in a relationship out of habit, waiting for a change that never comes.
Work and money
A standstill you can use for a fresh look and a new idea. Don't force decisions now. Reversed: wasted time, projects that have stalled.
The card's advice
Look at the matter from a completely different side. A pause is not a failure.
In Natuland
In Natuland gravity can rebel. The group reaches a place where a green meadow hangs overhead and the sea spreads out where the sky should be. Every step grows lighter, until in the end you fall upwards.
Symbols on the card
- A figure hanging upside down, legs in the shape of a "4": a voluntary pause, and surrender.
- A halo: understanding that comes once you stop fighting.
- A calm face: acceptance.
- A world turned upside down: a new perspective.
